2009 World Fellowship Sunday: Come Together in the Way of Jesus Christ

2008, 4 pp
On January 21, 1525, the first Anabaptist baptism took place in Zurich, Switzerland. For some years, our global faith family has observed World Fellowship Sunday on a Sunday close to January 21, usually the fourth Sunday in January, remembering our common roots and celebrating our worldwide koinonia. We invite you to join your brothers and sisters in five continental regions in marking World Fellowship Sunday on January 25, 2009.

This year's materials center around the theme of the Mennonite World Conference 15th Global Assembly, scheduled for July 14-19, 2009 in Asunción, Paraguay: "Come together in the way of Jesus Christ." Two members of our Executive Committee, Naomi Unger from Canada and Markus Rediger from Switzerland, worked together to prepare these materials.

While hundreds of our fith family hope to gather together in Asunción, many others will not be able to attend. It is hoped that these materials will help you enter more fully into fellowship, intercession, and thanksgiving with your global faith family. Here you will find suggestions for worship, prayer requests from around the world, an edited version of a meditation on the main Assembly biblical text of Philippians 2:1-11 by Moses Mayordomo from Switzerland, stories of service and unity, and a recipe for chipá (a type of starchy, cheesey bread that is eaten everywhere in Paraguay).
